Con-Goers - You Shall Not Pass

Sickness sucks... Anyway, won't be talking about being sick or infecting kids while going to the Magical Kingdom while sick, infecting everyone visiting... but... instead, we're gonna talk about something that has been missing from our theaters... Lord of the Rings... or, The Hobbit... I was really excited to hear that they were finally making this, saw some of the stuff at San Diego Comic-Con this year, but, what excited me was that Peter Jackson changed it from 2 movies to 3... Whoa... that's pretty big! Well... ok, that wasn't what really excited me, I would say it was the return of Galadriel (OMG, so hot...) but, to be honest, I think it's just the fact that magic and fantasy and adventure is coming back on the big screen. I dunno, I guess I just miss that... I mean, I haven't been too excited about going to the movies, even missed out on Bat3 just, cos, I didn't feel like going out... But yeah, totally excited now!

Con-Goers - Sooooooo Sick Right Now...

Uggghhhhh.......... I am sorry for not having an entirely new strip out today... I've been super sick the past couple of days and have been sleeping most of the days... It hit me the hardest on Monday afternoon, and just passed out the rest of the day. Tuesday was pretty much the same, I'd feel a little better, but, then get dizzy and need to lie down... I should be better by the afternoon today, hopefully... Time to go back to bed...

Con-Goers - About Being Otaku

What is it like being an otaku? Well, it's mostly like any other type of geek out there, just with a heavy love the Japanese Manga and Anime art style. During the golden times of otaku culture in America, we had so many publishing companies licensing anime and manga properties and bringing them to the States for all of the American otaku to become inspired and fall in love. Anime collecting was considered elite because, instead of just downloading an episode off of the net, you actually contributed to the success of an anime because you had the actual disks in hand.
America began its love of anime early, but the fandom was still quite small and hadn't begun to gain a more mainstream audience. Stories, from the first American otaku, were about bootlegged VHS tapes, with rough subtitles played to a small group. We still have bootleggers these days, but the quality has been improving quite a bit. This actually hurt our industry here, so we had to come up with different ways of making the anime/manga industry create money over here. Online streaming has been our answer and we are still growing it today.
But that is the business side. The influence of anime and manga, to our kids, has been enormous. No longer did we see cartoon just as random commercials made to sell toys, Anime and Manga had stories, made the people feel for the characters and their ideals. Our own cartoons were infected as well, where they are heavily influenced by anime, and it's always those shows that are successful.
Some otaku, though, are strict, die-hard, Japanese only otaku, that only care for the stories from the creators in Japan. This is not a bad thing, it's just a thing, but, as more and more creators become influence by Anime/Manga, that line will soon be blurred and the otaku of the world will finally unite and grow in a full grown under the geek umbrella.
So, grab a fellow otaku, ask for a show or manga recommendation and share it. Grow that love, for this art, and just keep following it.

Con-Goers - New Kicks For The Cons

One of my traditions is to buy new shoes before a con. This usually is before the San Diego Comic-Con, as my shoes get pretty beat up by that point. I've been getting mostly skate board shoes as the comfort level is high, and it's stylish enough.
But... every now and then... when I'm wearing new shoes... I accidentally step on someone's gum... It irritates me to no end... lol....

Do you have any weird traditions that you do before you go to a con?

Con-Goers - Come on! It's Only Hair!

True Story...
When you go around cons a lot, you meet some cool people, and become friends with them. I met the guys at ABCToy4Me and they're just fun people! They're funny, and, yes, this actually happened... What's awesome about these guys is that they are friendly and engage their customers which attracts more customers to their booth!
They're an awesome group and I thought I'd put them in today's strip! lol Enjoy!

Con-Goers - Sooooooo Melted

IT'S SOOOOOOOO HOTTTT..... It's been hitting the triple digits, here in So Cali... too hot... so, I've been lurking around our local book stores to keep cool... This is exactly how I talk on the phone when it's hot... minus the clothing... lol...
Wow... totally made that conversation go a different direction... Ok, back to the book store! It saddens me that the manga sections have been shrinking. Actually, the more I think about, even the American comic section has been shrinking... Where are these hopes and dreams going??? I miss those days where manga and comic sections took up such large sections that you'd get lost... That, to me, was heaven.
Geez... it's sooooo hot... needs me some boba...

Con-Goers - Wait For It

I've been attending comic conventions since 1992, with the first being the San Diego Comic-Con. One of the great things was meeting so many of my favorite creators that inspired me and my art today. I met them so young that they left such a lasting impression, that I continue to follow my dreams.
One of those creators was Stan Lee. I met him sooooo many times. I have so many stories of that guy and I always got a kick out of talking with him.
These situations are what keeps me going to cons. I highly encourage it!

Con-Goers - Designed By The Gods

Yup! See? The cutesy Con-Goers was a fluke, on Monday! lol We are back to being perverted and, what do we use for our perviness? PANTIES! Some would say I have a "panty fetish" but then I'd laugh in the their face! "HAHAHAHAHA!!!!" That's not me! That's Hiro that's always playing with panties! 8D That's it! LOL Anyway, here is a strip that puts panties, shimapan (striped panties) on a pedestal! So, grab a nice pair, stick them on your head, and run around like a crazy person while you read this!

Con-Goers - PDM Public Display of Manga

Ok, you might be wondering why there are no words in today's strip... the reason being is that I wanted to convey a moment, with the Con-Goers, that didn't need any words to tell a story. Yes... this one is less pervy than my others, which I won't stray away from, I just honestly wanted today's strip to be really cute; Hiro and Shawna sharing a moment, while reading manga together in public. This is something that I think people should do to help show that you aren't ashamed of your otakuness, you aren't ashamed to be caught reading comics in public and to share your love of manga and comics with others.

...again... sorry for it being too cute :3

Con-Goers - Lightspeed Hotel Sellout

Hotel registration, for a popular con, is one of the most stressful times in a Con-Goer's life. You want to get the perfect hotel, the perfect spot, not too close, not too far, not too loud and not too quiet... the perfect hotel room. These go by way too fast, at the popular cons, and even faster at the huge super popular cons. Convenience, price and location! That's what drives the prices for these! lol

Con-Goers - With All These Cons...

Aren't you non-Californians jelly??? California has a lot of conventions... I mean, like tons... There's like, soooo many going on, every weekend, that it's almost impossible to hit up every single one of them. There are even collectible shows that go on twice a week and even host special guests and events.
BUT... what counts most is the big cons! These are where most of the artist competition and rivalry grow. You can even find new up and coming artists at the artist alleys or sometimes in the dealer hall.

See you at the con!

Con-Goers - Applying Con Life in the Real World

Have you guys done this before? Give excuses to buy something you need, but it's really for your con-going? I used to do this, when I was younger, get backpacks that, during the school year, served as my bag for school, but its real purpose was to carry my stuff at the cons I went to. The backpack, has been an important part to one's con-going experience.
